Consultation to collect views about whether a Public Health Bill is needed in Wales

This consultation meets an important Programme for Government commitment, to:
"consult on the need for a public health bill to place statutory duties on bodies to consider public health issues."
The Welsh Government is fully committed to improving and protecting the health of people in Wales.  There has been an increased emphasis on public health issues in recent years.  This has been reflected in documents including Our Healthy Future, Together for Health and Fairer Health Outcomes For All.  The Welsh Government has also called for a greater focus on improving everybody's health, aswell as treating people who are ill.

Together for Mental Health - A Cross-Government Strategy for Mental Health and Wellbeing in Wales

‘Together for Mental Health’ is our new mental health strategy for Wales, covering people of all ages. It aims to address the needs of people with mental health problems or a mental illness, whilst also improving mental wellbeing.

The  strategy is intended to improve outcomes for service users, carers and their families.  We encourage the "recovery and reablement" approach, which aims to help people live independently and achieve their full potential.

The Mental Health (Regional Provision) (Wales) Regulations 2012

This consultation seeks your views on regulations which would enable Local Health Boards (LHBs) and local authorities in Wales to enter into regional working arrangements.

Draft Suicide Prevention Strategy

The UK Government has published a draft suicide prevention strategy for England.  The document brings together knowledge about groups at a higher risk of suicide, effective interventions and resources available and places a new emphasis on family members.

The consultation closes on 11 October 2011.  Consultation responses will inform the final strategy, in early 2012.

Mental Wellbeing and Older People Consultation

A NICE review is being undertaken to decide whether the public health guidance 'Occupational therapy and physical activity interventions to promote the mental wellbeing of older people in primary care and residential care' should be updated.
